TOUR OF GERMANY : summer dates being set

Summer Dates Being Set

‘Neil and the Real’ will be playing several shows in Germany this June and July. Germany is always a great place to visit and we have had great shows in the Motherland!!

Most, if not all of these shows will be NYA shows, offering pre-sale tickets to NYA members.

We are all very excited to come to Germany again! ‘Promise of The Real’ returns!

A dream is finally coming true!

You know, I’ve worked on this for years. I’ve always heard it. I’ve tried to explain it. I failed to get across to people what this is. . . . . but now that’s over. . . . .

The NYA APP speaks for itself. Everyone hears it. It doesn’t matter how bad your system is. Just plug your phone into it. NYA music sounds more alive through it. You can hear and feel the difference. You can experience the music in a new deeper way for yourself through any playback device.

I feel great. Reading people’s reactions to this APP is wonderful. Finally, it’s on a level playing field with everything else and can be truly compared.

It’s Music to my Ears!
Check out what these folks are saying:

4.6/5 rating at IOS app store.

Neil Does it again - Boundless50
Continuing his efforts to improve digital audio quality, Neil has hit a home run with a well-designed app that provides great sound (and flexibility when using a cellular connection) to enjoy even more his broad catalog of music. Now, if the technology could also be used with other artists’ music as well…

Great Sound Neil - JoeRay
***** (5-stars)
I just downloaded the Neil Young Archives app and the music sounds alive; right out of the studio…Thanks Neil for 24 bit sound…Merry Christmas to all…

24 bit steaming. Perfection! Love m… - WK-Y
24 bit streaming from the iPhone, so simple! Perfect sound with no breaking up like the lower bit files. No more ssss. Even the 16 bit files sound better than Streaming from Tidal.
Why can’t Apple Music do this?
This is music streaming of the future!

I have Apple Music and Tidal, this is the one app I use the most now. I wish all the music is on your website, Neil, and all remastered in 24 bit. Use this app. Music moves again. I’m dancing and singing with it.

Yeah - Kathy
It works. Sounds great. Yeah you need WiFi for high res, that ain’t Neil and company’s fault, maybe on 5G in a year or two. Been using this site all year and app does it justice.

Neil’s done it again- AWLionelGuy
The difference is in the sound! Awesome app with amazing features. NYC allows you to listen to his discography the way it should be heard. Some navigation features are less than perfect, but I can’t wait to see the app evolve.

Must have for Longtime Neil Fans - BertTR6
The Neil Young Archives is a treasure that music lovers around the world can enjoy with complete access to the life work of Neil Young. The sound quality at full resolution is unquestionably the best I’ve ever streamed on my mobile device. The fact that I can access all the gems, including the rare and obscure ones, and hear like I’m in the room with the music as it was meant to be…..

Better than expected - Hum1021

I’ve been using NYA for a long time I think it’s easier to navigate using the app than it is on the actual site Great job!
If you like Neil, pay for the subscription. ..It’s well worth it.

Greatest music all of all time - Deathcoach
Nothing less than the greatest music app of all time!

Brilliant - Captain Daver
Simply brilliant app !!

If you like Neil’s music, or maybe are looking for proof that music can come in hi-res through your phone, this is your place. I love the music (it’s what got me to pick up a guitar), so this works well for me.
A must for Neil Young fans - tag302

With subscription you get access to EVERYTHING related to Neil’s extensive musical output.

In addition to music, NYA provides a daily newspaper, Te NYA Times-Contrarian, delving into inside the music stories and news of the day reflections. But back to the sound of NYA. . . . . .

Folks, what’s really amazing here is that even though it sounds great everywhere, there is much more to this APP’s sound . . . . it is all there on your phone and you can unlock it and play it loud, all of it, the Startlingly Great Sound of High Res- through your home system.

Realizing the full potential of Xstream by NYA

Now that you’re able to stream high res music anywhere, we want to offer some suggestions on how to use your phone and computer to hear Neil’s NYA music at its best quality. While you’d think advanced tech devices like iPhone could handle whatever audio is thrown at them, unfortunately the hardware manufacturers, including Apple, have never prepared for quality audio streaming. So, even though it makes an iPhone sound better than any phone you have ever heard, you are still not hearing all of what is being streamed to your phone.

Now that High Res Xstream by NYA is here, iPhones are unfortunately unable play all of it. While you can play NYA files and they do sound better than anything else, to hear the full High-Res sound from your iPhone, you’ll need this

The solution

Add a simple external device, some less than the size of your thumb, called a DAC, that upgrades the phone’s lower quality internal DAC. Simply, insert the DAC between the data port of phone (or computer) and headphone, speakers or amplifier, and you’ll hear music at its very best audio quality. Below are some DACs that are well-rated and capable of playing full High Res. They’re available from your local dealers and from Amazon.

Remember, a DAC is not something you need to make ‘Xstream by NYA’ sound better than anything else through your phone; it already is doing that and you can hear it. An added DAC simply will allow you to unlock and hear all of the music, more has ever been heard from any Iphone.

NextDrive Spectra - $149
Meridian - Explorer2 USB DAC - $199
Chord Mojo - $499

Today, some cellphones, particularly LG’s top models, are able to play high res (192/24) right from the phone with no added DAC. That is the way cellphones should be in the 21st Century.

HOMETOWN : HEARSE THEATER Through the Holidays

HEARSE THEATER Through the Holidays

The ‘Hometown’ concert from Omemee Ontario will run until New Year’s in the Hearse Theater. Hometown. . . . . a solo performance by Neil from “a town in North Ontario” performed Dec 1, 2017 and now here for you.

Ragged Glory : Massive Discoveries in the vault!

Crazy Horse’s ‘Ragged Glory’ album will be twice the size in its next release. J. Hanlon has found more of the Crazy Horse album from 1990. Listening to these tracks is a real head scratcher. They are equal to anything on the existing record, maybe better. Possibly, the thought at the time was to have a single album and not include the songs from the last half of the unique ‘set oriented’ recording sessions.

Those sessions were unique because the band played a set of songs twice a day at Plywood Analog for a couple of weeks, then went back, listened and chose best tracks after the two weeks were up. The Ragged Glory was picked from those tracks. The same tracks were never repeated in a recording set, played only once as set. . . . and the band moved right on to the next song. No repeats. This approach took ‘analysis’ out of the game during the sessions, allowing the Horse to not think; thinking is deadly for the Horse.

After the songs were played enough so that the band was sure they must have the takes, the Horse, having a great time, kept playing other songs. . . Five songs, with two versions of one, and one long extended take of another, yielded another 38 minutes of Crazy Horse classics, mostly undiscovered and unheard before.

Ragged Glory II, the double album, will be announced as a stand alone LP in vinyl, CD and High resolution digital, probably released in 2019 and possibly delaying release of other announced projects.

The Hippies Were Right : We got Mother nature on the run

We got Mother nature on the run

When the Trump administration laid out a plan this year that would eventually allow cars to emit more pollution, automakers, the obvious winners from the proposal, balked. The changes, they said, went too far even for them.

But it turns out that there was a hidden beneficiary of the plan that was pushing for the changes all along: the nation’s oil industry.

facebook-logo bw-1408

In Congress, on Facebook and in statehouses nationwide, Marathon Petroleum, the country’s largest refiner, worked with powerful oil-industry groups and a conservative policy network financed by the billionaire industrialist Charles G. Koch to run a stealth campaign to roll back car emissions standards, a New York Times investigation has found. The campaign’s main argument for significantly easing fuel efficiency standards — that the United States is so awash in oil it no longer needs to worry about energy conservation — clashed with decades of federal energy and environmental policy.

In recent months, Marathon Petroleum also teamed up with a secretive policy group within the Koch network, the American Legislative Exchange Council, to draft legislation for states supporting the industry’s position. Its proposed resolution, dated Sept. 18, describes current fuel-efficiency rules as “a relic of a disproven narrative of resource scarcity” and says “unelected bureaucrats” shouldn’t dictate the cars Americans drive.

A separate industry campaign on Facebook, covertly run by an oil-industry lobby representing Exxon Mobil, Chevron, Phillips 66 and other oil giants, urged people to write to regulators to support the rollback. The Facebook ads linked to a website with a picture of a grinning Mr. Obama. It asked, “Would YOU buy a used car from this man?” The site appears to have been so effective that a quarter of the 12,000 public comments received by he Department of Transportation can be traced to the petition, according to a Times analysis.

Gary R. Heminger, Marathon’s chairman and chief executive, said in a statement that the company supported “sound fuel economy standards” and wanted to “help ensure they are achievable and based on existing technology.” He added, “We appreciate the administration’s willingness to conduct a thorough review in order to ensure future standards are achievable and will actually benefit American consumers.”

A spokesman for Koch Industries, the energy conglomerate led by Mr. Koch, said the company had “a long, consistent track record of opposing all forms of corporate welfare, including all subsidies, mandates and other handouts that rig the system."

Meanwhile, the oil industry itself gets more support in subsidies from the US government than any other energy source. . . . .20.5 BILLION annually paid by US taxpayers..

The Trump plan, if finalized, would increase greenhouse gas emissions in the United States by more than the amount many midsize countries put out in a year and reverse a major effort by the Obama administration to fight climate change.

California has pledged to stick to the stricter standards, together with 13 other states that follow its lead. But President Trump’s plan challenges California’s rule-writing power, setting up a legal battle that threatens to split the American auto market in two. That is a prospect automakers desperately want to avoid.

For gasoline producers like Marathon, a shift toward more efficient vehicles poses a grave threat to the bottom line. In October, the company acquired a rival, Andeavor, making it the biggest refiner in the United States, with sales of 16 billion gallons of fuel a year.

“We have invested billions of dollars to make our operations more energy efficient,” Marathon said in a recent report. Even while doubling down on gasoline, Marathon has projected an environmentally friendly public image. The company’s Twitter account recently highlighted a gardening project and the creation of a duck pond at one of its refineries.

On a conference call with investors last week, Mr. Heminger, the Marathon chief executive, was already counting the extra barrels of fuel a Trump rollback would mean for the industry: 350,000 to 400,000 barrels of gasoline per day, he said.

“However, you have another side who doesn’t want to pivot away” from the stricter rules, Mr. Heminger said. “So we have a lot of work to do to keep this momentum going.”

“You sure do, Mr. Heminger. More than you will ever know.”

PUTIN, BONESAW & TRUMP : TRUMP WEAK - Earth Faces Leadership Crisis as USA Abandons Climate Responsibility

Trump is seen as weak and easy to manipulate by Putin and Bonesaw.

The resistance to Climate Change weakens as it is dealt a blow by Putin, Bonesaw & Trump ’short term vision’ and lack of responsible leadership at Poland Climate meeting.

The three leaders have voiced that they were continuing their aggressive fossil fuel programs and not dealing with Climate change as an issue.

As the USA follows Russia and Saudi Arabia in opposing Climate action and refuses to join with Carbon reduction policies, Climate aware world citizens are plunged into a massive leadership void.

People of these remaining civilized countries must grapple with the new realities of the 21st Century mostly on their own. Solar power, electric transportation, renewable energy fuels, crop rotation and an understanding of and respect for Nature and Science will continue hold these great countries together.

They will be the Green Leaders, using new technology and naturally renewable energy to forge forward into a future world of Climate chaos. They will need your help. Join with them and give your support in all the ways you can. Preserve Earth for our next generations. Now is the time for bold and strong action on every front.

BARCLAYS BANK : Dark Decisions at the Top

Dark Decisions at the Top

In a dark office at the top of Barclays, they plan how to gain. They evaluate the returns. . . . decide when to sell. They are ignorant and out of touch with today, with what matters now; doing what they have always done. I do not stand with this. It is over.

It shows how out of touch with reality Barclays Bank is, still investing in Fossil Fuels. Our children’s Planet is in trouble. Fossil Fuels are a major cause. Every day it gets much worse. Science on this matter is indisputable. Period.

Barclays is still involved in the Canadian Tar Sands and currently backs fracking in England, overtly against the will of the people. It’s like they live in the past.

“I heard Neil is sponsored by Barclays. He likes oil and money too.”

There is more to life than Money. There is more to decision making than Habit. There is more to results than Greed. I am standing against Barclays. . . . .Not on their stage. Not under their name.

It is my own fault that I am here at this crossroads. I was delivered here unknowingly by my own organization, arriving in a changed world. Things that used to be alright are not alright anymore. My grandchildren’s Planet is in crisis and new moves have to be made now. . . . .not the same old moves.

So now we have to pay the price. I don’t want music lovers to be disappointed. But the end of this is coming. It is change. . . .Change for the Better. I do hope no one gets hurt.

Dark decisions, once safe, may now have dark consequences. I sincerely hope not.

When Bayer acquired Monsanto earlier this year for more than $60 billion, they also acquired the 9000 lawsuits filed against Monsanto involving their notorious weed killer, Roundup. As we reported here on the Times-Contrarian, the first of these lawsuits went to trial in San Francisco in August, where a former school groundskeeper was initially awarded $289 million in damages for the terminal cancer he acquired from using Roundup.

Since the acquisition and as a result of the lawsuit, Bayer’s stock has dropped by 35%. This has led to an announcement today from Bayer that they’re slashing 12,000 jobs, about 10% of their workforce.

Not surprisingly, Monsanto has not been good for Bayer’s health, the maker of products that include Bayer aspirin, Afrin, Claritin, Dr. Scholls, Coppertone, Citrical and hundreds more, some of which are expected to be sold off. The full impact on Monsanto’s notorious Roundup has yet to be felt and it’s expected to continue to cause huge problems for Bayer, headquartered in Germany.

I wrote ‘White Line’ in the back of Pearl on the CSNY 1974 stadium tour. Joel Bernstein, friend, archivist and photographer, believes I am seen typing the original in this photo. He compared the typewritten page in the archives with this picture and identified the song as White Line, a love song about traveling away from the pain.

That old white line is a friend of mine

Right now I’m thinkin ‘bout those things that I know,

STAND UP : For What You Believe

Stand up for what you believe.
Resist the powers that be.
Preserve the land and save the seas
for the children of destiny; the children of you and me.

Should goodness ever lose-
and evil steal the day
Should happy sing the blues-
and peaceful fade away,
What would you do?
What would you say?
How would you act on that new day?

Stand up for what you believe.
Resist the powers that be.
Preserve the ways of Democracy
so the children can be free,
the Children of Destiny.

People are taking the piss out of you everyday. They butt into your life, take a cheap shot at you and then disappear. They leer at you from tall buildings and make you feel small. They make flippant comments from buses that imply you’re not sexy enough and that all the fun is happening somewhere else. They are on TV making your girlfriend feel inadequate. They have access to the most sophisticated technology the world has ever seen and they bully you with it. They are the Advertisers and they are laughing at you.

You, however, are forbidden to touch them. Trademarks, intellectual property rights and copyright law mean advertisers can say whatever they like whereever they like with total impunity.

Fuck that. Any advert in a public space that gives you no choice whether you see it or not is yours. It’s yours to take, re-arrange and re-use. You can do whatever you like with it. Asking for permission is like asking to keep a rock someone threw at your head.

You owe the companies nothing. Less than nothing, you especially don’t owe them any courtesy. They owe you. They have re-arranged the world to put themselves in front of you. They never asked for your permission, don’t even start asking for theirs.

TRASH IN THE HOUSE : a sad flag - America's values threatened from within...

a sad flag

America’s values threatened from within...

With shock and dismay, Republicans, Democrats and citizens of all colors have born witness to one of the most embarrassing and soulless performances ever made by a sitting head of state.

The being in question, literally, is a scourge on the state, reveling in turning citizens openly against one another and encouraging discontent. That was yesterday.

Today, this information was shared by a leading cyber-security expert:
“Presidential alerts are capable of accessing the E911 chip in your phones - giving them full access to your location, microphone, camera and every function of your phone.”

Many citizens of Earth believe the USA is headed for disaster in the form of needless war at the hands of this being. Some call him ‘The Orange Lucifer’ and compare his actions to a Hitler in the USA.

Keep your eyes open for more signs and don’t ignore them. This is not a dream. It’s a nightmare.

NYA opinion

The General James M. Gavin Power Plant, a coal-fired facility in Cheshire, Ohio. New rules would weaken restrictions on mercury emissions from coal-burning plants.

By Coral Davenport
New York Times

The Trump administration has completed a detailed legal proposal to dramatically weaken a major environmental regulation covering mercury, a toxic chemical emitted from coal-burning power plants, according to a person who has seen the document but is not authorized to speak publicly about it.

The proposal would not eliminate the mercury regulation entirely, but it is designed to put in place the legal justification for the Trump administration to weaken it and several other pollution rules, while setting the stage for a possible full repeal of the rule.

Andrew Wheeler, a former coal lobbyist who is now the acting administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, is expected in the coming days to send the proposal to the White House for approval.

The move is the latest, and one of the most significant, in the Trump administration’s steady march of rollbacks of Obama-era health and environmental regulations on polluting industries, particularly coal. The weakening of the mercury rule — which the E.P.A. considers the most expensive clean air regulation ever put forth in terms of annual cost to industry — would represent a major victory for the coal industry. Mercury is known to damage the nervous systems of children and fetuses.
